Editor workflows

Colourlab Ai + Adobe Premiere Pro

Edit in your chosen application. Develop the look in Colourlab. Return with graded clips ready for your sequence.

1. Export your timeline.

Select the sequence you want to grade in Adobe Premiere Pro and export it as OpenTimelineIO (OTIO).

2. Import into Colourlab.

Create or open a project. Select Import Timeline → Import OTIO, then choose the exported file.

Colourlab imports video layers and audio files. Graphics are skipped. Multicam and nested sequences are not currently supported in this workflow.

3. Create your look.

Balance footage, match shots and refine the result. Use Astra film emulation, skin processing and Fine-Tune as needed. The selected processing will be baked into rendered clips.

4. Export the graded sequence.

Open File → Export, choose OTIO and select the option to create a new timeline. Colourlab renders graded clips and creates a timeline referencing them.

Keep the exported timeline and rendered media available for the return.

5. Bring the result into Adobe Premiere Pro.

Import the new OTIO exported by Colourlab. The editor imports the timeline and relinks the rendered clips. Review the sequence before continuing to edit and finish.

Keep the original sequence so you can restore graphics and other elements that did not transfer.

Your complete treatment, rendered.

Film colour, grain, halation, lens effects and skin processing travel with the rendered image. The editor does not need matching plug-ins to recreate them.

Further grading is possible, but Colourlab’s treatment is embedded rather than returned as editable effects.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a direct plug-in connection?

No. This workflow exchanges timelines through OTIO and returns rendered media.

Can I revise the Colourlab settings afterwards?

Return to your Colourlab project and export updated renders. You can also apply further adjustments in the editor.

What happens to titles?

Graphics are skipped. Keep your original sequence to restore them during finishing.

How should I prepare multicam or nested sequences?

Prepare the material as ordinary timeline clips before export.
