1. Select the specific timeline.
In Final Cut Pro, highlight the timeline you want to grade and export it as XML. Avoid a broader export containing multiple timelines.
2. Import into Colourlab.
Create a project, then choose File → Import Timeline → XML from Final Cut. Select your XML file. Colourlab supports the latest Final Cut Pro XML version.
The timeline’s media and speed changes are imported. Multicam clips and text or title elements are not imported.
3. Develop your grade.
Balance footage, match shots and refine your appearance. Film emulation and skin processing can be included because their results will be baked into the return.
4. Create a new XML and render.
Open Export and choose Create new XML. Render the graded clips as part of the export. Keep the new XML and rendered files available together.
5. Return to Final Cut Pro.
Import the new XML using the media rendered by Colourlab. Review the timeline, then continue editing and finishing.
Keep the original timeline to restore titles and other elements that did not transfer.
